PROGRAM DESIGN

The Rural Track is designed to provide residents with comprehensive training in Family Medicine while preparing them for board certification. Attitudes, behaviors, knowledge, and skills essential to rural family practice are developed through longitudinal experiences that foster the educational competencies defined by the ACGME. Residents train in both inpatient and outpatient settings, with a focus on providing care for rural and underserved populations.

Through immersive rotations in areas such as pediatrics, obstetrics, behavioral health, emergency medicine, and pain management, residents gain the adaptability and broad clinical expertise needed to practice effectively in community-based and resource-limited settings.

In addition, the curriculum integrates structured didactics, morning report, conferences, journal clubs, and skills workshops to supplement experiential learning. Emphasis is placed on outcomes-oriented, evidence-based approaches to conditions commonly encountered across the lifespan, ensuring residents are well prepared to meet the diverse needs of rural communities.
