Curriculum

CURRICULUM

The first year rotations or internship, consist of 6 months of dedicated orthopedic surgery experience. As an intern, duties consist of perioperative management of the surgical patient and obtaining a basic understanding of the day to day activities within Larkin Community Hospital. Further responsibilities include didactics presentations and the participation in basic surgical skills modules. The other 6 months of the academic year consists of rotations in other specialties both surgical and non-surgical designed to improve manual and medical skills.

As a PGY-2 through PGY-5, the residents will spend their rotations solely on orthopaedic services. They will continue to progress with graduated responsibilities both clinically and operatively. The expectation is for senior residents to continue to hone their skills in addition to educating their more junior residents. Didactics presentations will be continued to be delivered by each resident throughout their residency tenure.

Didactics
The formal educational program includes structured orthopedic teaching conferences in fracture management, core conferences, grand rounds, indications conference, morbidity and mortality, basic science and anatomy conferences, all of which provide a comprehensive curriculum of fundamental orthopedics. Presentations are prepared and delivered both by residents as well as faculty.

Friday – 6:30AM to 9:30AM EST

If you would like to join our didactics sessions virtually, please contact us at ortholarkin@gmail.com
