PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Our Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology (MSDO) Fellowship program aims to cultivate well-rounded physicians who are lifelong learners and competent Mohs micrographic surgeons. It emphasizes cultural sensitivity, professionalism, and compassion in providing patient-centered healthcare. We encourage our fellows to take the initiative as future community leaders, guided by a unique philosophy centered on patient-centered care and the principles of DEI. The overall goals of the Micrographic Surgery & Dermatologic Oncology (MSDO) fellowship program, with a DEI perspective, are as follows:

  1. Equip fellows with the necessary skills for the study, diagnosis, and surgical treatment of skin diseases, including high-risk cutaneous malignancies, while ensuring equitable access and care.
  2. Categorize the fellowship into three areas: cutaneous oncologic surgery, cutaneous reconstructive surgery, and dermatologic oncology, ensuring comprehensive knowledge and training in these domains, with a commitment to diversity and inclusivity.
  3. Graduate fellows capable of managing complications arising from medical dermatologic therapy, dermatologic surgery, and related procedures, with a focus on equitable patient outcomes.
  4. Develop the skills and knowledge required for successful scholarly activities, including critical assessment of medical literature, research design, data analysis, and effective communication with peers and professionals, taking into consideration the diverse perspectives within healthcare.
  5. Prepare fellows to adapt to a changing healthcare environment, ensuring equitable access to healthcare services for all.
  6. Instill in fellows a respect for and an understanding of the importance of continued medical education, including ongoing DEI education and awareness.
  7. Foster competence in the six core competency areas defined by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) from a DEI perspective: patient care, medical knowledge, intercommunication skills, systems-based practice, practice-based learning and improvement, and professionalism, with a focus on equitable and culturally competent care.
