PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The goal of the program is to provide education and experience which will allow fellows to treat those with substance use disorders across the continuum of care. This would include a comprehensive evaluation of the person with substance use disorder to include the bio psychosocial aspects of substance use disorders. The fellow will be able to diagnose and treat all medical aspects of care including withdrawal management, maintenance treatment, and treatment for those with medical conditions that may be a consequence of, or exacerbated by the substance use disorder. The fellow will also be able to evaluate, diagnose and treat the most common co-occurring mental health disorders.  The fellow will learn to evaluate the psychosocial issues that may contribute to the recovery of a person with substance use disorder. The fellow will attend a didactic curriculum which will expand knowledge of etiology, neurobiology, and evidence based care to optimize treatment.  The fellows will also complete one research project as well as one Quality Improvement project during the fellowship year.
