PROGRAM DESIGN

The first year of the program is structured to familiarize the resident with their duties as a physician inside of the hospital.  This includes rotations in internal medicine, emergency medicine, radiology, anesthesia, pathology, and radiology.  The purpose of these rotations during the first year is to build a strong foundation of medicine in which you can build your area of expertise.  During your first year you will also have several months of managing podiatry patients on the floor and taking call, scrubbing minor podiatric procedures, while also spending some time in the outpatient podiatry clinic.

The second year of the program is designed to build on the skills you made during your first year as a resident.  The second year exposes the resident to more specific hospital rotations such as infectious disease, psychology, and elective medical and surgical subspecialties.  The second year resident also transitions into a more clinical and surgical podiatric role during this year in which they are responsible for running the outpatient clinic and scrubbing the more advanced surgical podiatric procedures.

The third year of the program is structured to further hone your podiatric surgical and clinical skills in order to prepare the resident to pass board exams, graduate, and obtain a job in the field.  This year is filled with surgery and clinic rotations with electives in areas you which to pursue.
