PROGRAM DESIGN
Clinical Curriculum
Residents receive comprehensive training across the full spectrum of dermatology through a diverse clinical curriculum that includes continuity clinics at Larkin Community Hospital and Dania Dermatology, complex medical dermatology, dermatopathology, pediatric dermatology, dermatologic surgery, Mohs micrographic surgery, cosmetic dermatology, cutaneous oncology, and exposure to multidisciplinary care through related specialties such as Radiation Oncology. Residents benefit from direct access to a dermatopathology laboratory and dedicated teaching from board-certified dermatopathologists, as well as hands-on procedural and cosmetic training under the supervision of experienced faculty. This broad educational experience provides residents with the clinical knowledge, procedural skills, and professional foundation necessary for successful careers in academic medicine, private practice, or fellowship training.

PGY – 2: Foundations of Clinical Dermatology
The first year of dermatology training focuses on building a strong foundation in general and medical dermatology. Residents gain exposure to both outpatient and consultative dermatology while beginning structured training in dermatopathology, pediatric dermatology, dermatologic surgery, cosmetic dermatology, and skin of color dermatology. Emphasis is placed on developing clinical efficiency, diagnostic reasoning, and procedural fundamentals.

PGY-3: Advanced Clinical and Procedural Training
The second year of training focuses on increasing clinical independence and procedural competency. Residents manage a broader range of complex medical dermatology cases while further developing skills in dermatologic surgery, Mohs surgery exposure, pediatric dermatology, cosmetic procedures, and subspecialty dermatology. Progressive responsibility is placed on clinical judgment, patient management, and procedural decision-making.

PGY-4: Senior and Subspecialty Consolidation
The final year emphasizes leadership, autonomy, and preparation for independent practice. Senior residents manage complex clinical cases, supervise junior residents, and refine subspecialty expertise across medical, surgical, cosmetic, and dermatopathology domains. Elective time allows for individualized training aligned with career goals and academic interests.

Elective Training
Residents are provided with 4 weeks of dedicated elective time throughout residency (PGY-2 to PGY-4) to support individualized academic development and career planning.
Electives are available across the Miami metropolitan area and are arranged in collaboration with affiliated faculty and experienced dermatology clinicians in both academic and high-volume private practice settings.

These experiences provide additional exposure to subspecialty practice while allowing residents to train directly with clinicians who have focused expertise in their respective fields.
Didactic Curriculum
The academic curriculum is designed to complement clinical training and support board preparation and lifelong learning.
Core educational activities include:

- Dermatopathology teaching sessions
- Board review conferences and case-based learning

Educational Philosophy
