Application and Program Requirements

Audition Rotation Information

Thank you for your interest in the Larkin Community Hospital South Miami Campus Dermatology Residency Program.

Eligibility

We participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and typically interview approximately 40–50 candidates for our residency positions each year.
Completion of an audition rotation is required for applicants seeking consideration for a residency position within our program.

Applicants must have graduated from, or be expected to graduate from, an LCME-accredited medical school, an accredited osteopathic medical school, or a WFME-recognized international medical school.

Medical Licensing Examination

Applicants must meet the following board examination requirements:

  • Applicants must have passed USMLE Step 1 or COMLEX Level 1 prior to the start of the rotation.
  • A minimum score of 240 on USMLE Step 2 CK or 550 on COMLEX Level 2 is required.
  • USMLE Step 2 CK or COMLEX Level 2 scores are not required at the time of application for an audition rotation.
  • Applicants selected for a rotation must provide their USMLE Step 2 CK or COMLEX Level 2 score prior to the start of the rotation. Final confirmation of the rotation is contingent upon receipt of this score.

Other Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be applying to dermatology during the current application cycle.
  • Be either:
    • A fourth-year medical student (MS4/OMS4), or
    • A PGY-1 physician reapplying to dermatology after an unsuccessful Match.
  • Have a GPA of 3.75 or higher (if reported by the medical school).
  • Rank within the top 10% of their class (if reported by the medical school).
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in dermatology through research, leadership, service, or other scholarly activities.

Preliminary Year Requirement

Our residency is an advanced training program. One year of training in an accredited broad-based residency program is required prior to beginning the PGY-2 year in Dermatology.

Acceptable PGY-1 training for our program is limited to a Transitional Year internship. Applicants should ensure they apply to Transitional Year programs to satisfy this requirement.

Applicants are not eligible if they:

  • Are third-year medical students (MS3/OMS3).
  • Have completed any ACGME accredited residency program in any speciality.
  • Are beyond the PGY-1 level of training.

Rotation Logistics

  • Audition rotations are conducted at our outpatient clinic in Dania Beach, Florida.
  • Each selected applicant will complete a three-day rotation.
  • A brief on-site interview will be conducted during the rotation.
  • Applicants will be asked to deliver a short presentation (approximately 5 minutes) on a dermatology-related topic.

Application Materials

Applicants should be prepared to submit the following:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Class rank (if available)
