Message from the Allopathic Psychiatry Residency Program Director

Dear doctors:
 
Thank you for your interest in the Allopathic Larkin Community Hospital Psychiatry Residency Program. This program has been recently accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and will start its first academic year on July 1, 2012. We have been approved to offer 32 resident’s slots (8 residents per postgraduate year of training)
 
We congratulate you on selecting Psychiatry, as the specialty of your choice. Psychiatry is the medical specialty focused on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of mental, addictive, and emotional disorders. Through our program you will receive a comprehensive post-graduate training in the study of mental disorders, which include various affective, behavioral, cognitive and perceptual disorders.This program has been organized in compliance with the ACGME Institutional Requirements, Common Program Requirements and specific Psychiatry Program’s Requirements. We are committed to instruct the resident with the required medical knowledge related to psychiatry, the needed clinical skills and provide them with a progressive responsibility in patient care.
 
Our didactic mission will extend far beyond the context of a required residency program in the way to meet the requirements to get the unrestricted medical license and produce board eligible psychiatrists for the increasing demand in the community. We are faithful in preparing our residents as self-directed competent psychiatrists and life long learners, holding the highest academic, ethical, clinical and professional values of medicine, and capable of providing a comprehensive health care to the individual through all cycles of life; emphasizing on the bio-psycho-social formulation of patient care, We also are committed to promote the growth of future leaders of interdisciplinary teams in research and clinical psychiatry. The program will provide the trainees with an advanced education of the highest quality, combining teaching, clinical service, comprehensive patient care and research. Our trainees will be exposed to a wide spectrum of psychiatric related medical conditions and diverse group of patients. Our residents will be evaluated through an approach that highlights their capability to be compliant with the ACGME core competences for residency training in psychiatry in the areas of patient care, medical knowledge, practiced-based learning and improvement, interpersonal skills and communication, professionalism, and systems-based practice. Upon the successful completion of this training, the resident will be eligible for certification in General Psychiatry through the examination provided by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
 
The Larkin Community Hospital faculty members and the GME staff are available and disposed to answer any question that you may have. Our program has been designed within a work environment favorable to assure the best educational and clinical experiences for you and for the overall success of the residency program. Applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible.  Personal interviews will be required and will be scheduled after the application documents are received and reviewed by the proper committee.
