PROGRAM ACCEPTANCE REQUIREMENTS

Program Overview

The Larkin Community Hospital Residency Training in Neurology is a postgraduate training program of four (4) years in length, following successful completion of medical school. Our residency is a categorical program with 16 positions. All positions are filled through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). NRMP registration forms are available on the NRMP website.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must submit:

  • A completed NRMP application
  • USMLE Step 1 or COMLEX Level 1 score; USMLE Step 2 or COMLEX Level 2 score (if available). Note: Either USMLE or COMLEX is acceptable; USMLE is not required
  • Three letters of recommendation, with at least one from a neurologist
  • A personal statement
  • Completion of a personal interview
  • Applicants with more than 1 year of graduation must have completed Step 3 or COMLEX-3 to be considered starting the 2026 application period

Interviews

We follow the American Academy of Neurology’s recommendation and conduct virtual interviews only; second-look in-person visits are offered upon request, but this would not affect an applicant’s selection or ranking. We encourage applicants to submit their materials early. Applications are reviewed starting in October, with interviews typically held on Fridays in November, December, and January.

International Medical Graduates (IMGs)

IMG applicants are welcome. We coordinate with the GME office to facilitate legal arrangements for a J-1 visa for accepted IMG candidates. A valid ECFMG certificate is required to begin residency training.

Resident Selection Criteria

Our program values diversity and conducts a holistic review of all applications. We offer interviews to applicants who we believe will contribute meaningfully to the Larkin Health System community. We do not use board scores or grades as screening tools. We don’t have a cut-off from graduation; however, applicants with more than 1 year of graduation must have completed Step 3 or COMLEX-3 to be considered starting the 2026 application period.

Our program only accepts applications through ERAS and applicants are contacted through ERAS for interviews.
